The Challenge: How do you improve time-tested, classic furniture? Thonet wanted to build on its heritage of creating innovative designs in tubular steel. The company has worked with design icons like Marcel Breuer, Mart Stam and Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe to create a timeless aesthetic. Could it be updated and improved?

Problem Solved: QDesign worked closely with Thonet to bring the past into the present in a way that is resonates with designers today. The Modern Heritage Collection includes storage, table and seating elements using traditional bent-tube construction. In addition to the modular nature of the design that allows for pieces of the collection to be configured in any way the client chooses, QDesign also worked with Thonet on updating the palette of metal finishes to include colors like silver, champagne and rose gold.
